Special Olympics bowling competition this week

Nearly 900 Special Olympics athletes from Tucson and Southern Arizona will participate in a bowling competition this week.

They will be joined by more than 250 volunteers from the Tucson Police Department, the United States Air Force, University of Arizona Student Organizations, and other local businesses and civic organizations.

The event is sponsored by the Tucson Conquistadores, Knights of Columbus, GEICO, Tucson Five Hundred Club, Thorson LLC – Subway, Safeway Foundation, and Frito Lay.

Special Olympics athletes representing 27 area teams will compete in singles, doubles, team and ramp bowling. Elementary and middle school athletes compete on Thursday, high school athletes compete on Friday and adults compete on Saturday.

Thursday, November 15 is the first day of the three-day competition at Golden Pin Lanes on Miracle Mile. Each day it starts at 9 a.m. and runs until 1:30 p.m.
