Close to 500 Special Olympics Arizona athletes from Tucson and southern Arizona competed in a basketball and cheerleading competitions Saturday.
The teams ranged from high schools to adults.
One coach who has been involved for 40 years says this is a great opportunity for the athletes.
"This is probably the best thing for these young people. It gives them an opportunity to excel in so many ways," Harry Parks, a basketball coach told KGUN9.
All of the participating athletes competed for medals and ribbons in their events.
