TUCSON, Ariz. - Kelsey Leaf is the fifth grade band teacher at the Santa Cruz Unified School District and after six years of teaching only inside of the classroom, she's taking her talents to YouTube.

Leaf started making YouTube videos for her students back in October. In the videos she shows students how to properly hold different kinds of musical instruments, proper finger placement on those instruments and even how to play certain songs.

Leaf said she decided to start making the videos after realizing many of her students weren't practicing as much as she'd like at home.

"I wanted to find a way to get all of my kids on the same page and make it easier for them to practice at home," said Leaf.

Leaf teaches close to 75 students across four different schools within the Santa Cruz Unified School District.

"When I get students they are very first time playing an instrument. Most of them have never played an instrument in their life before and most of them don't know how to read music," said Leaf.

When Leaf first told her students she'd be recording and uploading videos to the popular social media site she said she didn't expect to get much feedback, but what happened was quite the opposite.

"'Miss you're a YouTuber?' so that was kind of fun", said Leaf.

So far, Leaf has recorded and uploaded close to 100 videos, that together have nearly five thousand views.

Leaf said she plans on continuing to record and upload her videos. You can find all of her videos on her Youtube page, Kelsey Leaf.
