TUCSON, Ariz. — Tucson olice have identified the driver who was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Friday, Dec. 14.

TPD say 55-year-old Geoffrey Hayward was taken to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

North and southbound Rita Road was closed down for a few hours between I-10 and Old Vail Road because of the crash.

According to a press release, police were able to determine that Hayward was driving a gray 2000 Acura TL passenger car while exiting a business parking lot on the west side of Rita Road. As he attempted to make a left turn across Rita Road, he pulled in front of a silver 2008 Nissan Xterra SUV. The driver of the SUV was unable to stop in time and collided with the driver’s side of the Acura.

Police say the driver of the SUV stayed on the scene and cooperated with officials. No arrests were made and no citations were issued.
