RIO RICO, Ariz. - A man in Rio Rico is turning to the community for help to continue cleaning and caring for a cemetery.
David Goodman has been cleaning the Calabasas Cemetery for about five years now.
Goodman said he'd heard about the cemetery from locals, and he'd driven by a few times, but had never visited.
One day, he said he finally pulled off the northbound Frontage Road near where the cemetery is located and was shocked by how unkept it was.
After that day Goodman said he decided he couldn't sit around while the cemetery was a mess, so he decided to clean it up himself.
His hardest task was clearing all of the trees on the grounds, and his most fulfilling was finding and putting together years old grave stones that had been destroyed.
The hardest work, however, is now behind him. Goodman says nowadays it's all about maintaining the grounds.
While he has had help from volunteers here and there, Goodman said he's now reaching out to the community for monetary help.
Goodman created a GoFundMe where he hopes he gets a little bit of help.
He said he also hopes that more people become aware of the cemetery and visit whenever they get a chance.
