Fans detail cars in anticipation of the new film

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The 'Star Wars' characters can only be found in a galaxy far-far away, but the fans of the film franchise can be found right here in Tucson.

Including "No Discriminations Car Club" President Gilbert Ybarra, who has been hooked on 'Star Wars' since the first film landed in theaters in 1977.

"Now, with Episode 7, I get that little child-like feeling and I can't help myself," Ybarra said.

A feeling that followed him into adulthood, allowing him to take his love beyond the screen and behind the wheel.

"We knew star wars was coming out later in the year - and of course, we're all counting the days for it in anticipation," Ybarra said. "So, we thought, 'Why not do a 'Star Wars' theme on our vehicles?'"

Ybarra and his other members of the car club have decided to deck-out their rides to show their 'Star Wars' obsessions off to the world.

All five owners: Anthony Bowen, James Dudderar, Annette Cook, Tom Gardner and Gilbert Ybarra, picked a unique theme for each vehicle.

"We were figuring out - we got to pick a different sort of theme for each car," Ybarra explained. "Even though most of them kind of run on the dark side a little bit with Darth Vader, of course my personal favorite."

The group started working on their cars in February. But, first - they had to wait four months to get approval from Disney and Lucas Films to able to properly display their decals and trademarked characters. They are allowed to keep their cars in 'Star Wars' get-up for one year.

But, in the meantime - Darth Vader, Princess Leia and other characters ride-along in those cars, hyping up the excitement for the big premiere.

"It's funny... it's almost like we brought a car show wherever we go together," Ybarra laughed.

The group tells KGUN9, they will be at the midnight premiere with the cars and the characters to show-off their galactic get-up.
