Abandoned horse is on the road to recovery

Posted

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) -  A Tucson organization is working to bring awareness to abuse on horses. Last week, Heart of Tucson rescued a sick horse left abandoned at Dogpatch.

They say they've rescued about five horses from that area of the desert. Their most recent rescue was extremely sick and suffering from a heart murmur, poor nutrition and blindness in one eye. Now, they're working to get him healthy again and prevent other horse owners from abandoning their animals.

"They look pretty much almost dead, but they're still obviously up and living and breathing," said Heart of Tucson president Cindy Butierez. "Most of the horses that we rescue from Dogpatch are just almost so far gone that you would never even give them a chance. Nobody would give them a chance that they would actually survive. But they do."

Heart of Tucson is currently working to rehabilitate about a dozen horses. If you are interested in making a donation, click here.
