Tucson City Council approved 7-0 Reid Park Zoo's Financial Participation Agreement to fund the construction of a new health center and renovations to the to existing health center.
This project has almost $4 million in funds.
The existing Reid Park Health Center is 40 years old. The proposal for funding states that there was an increase in animals over the years and now the facility is undersized.
The zoo is looking to make more room for the animals and improve the existing facility.
Recently, the Reid Park Zoological Society received a Tucson Electric Power Environmental Protection and Sustainability Grant to help fund 63 solar modules that will help power the new Animal Health Center.
