PHOENIX (AP) - The state Board of Regents has authorized contract negotiations to begin with the next presumed president of the University of Arizona.
The regents last week selected Dr. Robert Robbins, the CEO of Texas Medical Center, as the only finalist for the job as the Tucson school's president.
Robbins currently heads the world's biggest medical center in Houston and makes more than $1.2 million. The UA president position currently pays $670,000.
The regents expect to vote on Robbins' contract on April 6-7.
UA President Ann Weaver Hart is serving out the remainder of her contract that expires in June 2018. She became the university's 21st president in 2012.
Hart announced last June that she would not seek a contract extension, but would remain at the helm until a replacement is named.
