TUCSON, Ariz. — Tucson Police say a woman was drunk when she ran a red light and fatally hit a pedestrian Sunday evening.

The crash happened Ajo Way and Forgeus Avenue. Police say 59-year-old Beatric Alvarez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alvarez was walking across Ajo in the marked Crosswalk when she was hit, police said. Witnesses told traffic detectives that 26-year-old Gabriel Aragon, who was driving a Kia, ran a red light when she hit the victim.

Police say a DUI investigator determined Aragon was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. She was arrested on 2nd degree murder, aggravated assault and criminal damage charges.
