TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) Pima County officials have a new notification system to alert you during emergencies.
The Pima County Office of Emergency Management announced you could sign up for the alerts on MyAlerts.pima.gov.
You will get alerts about heavy police activity, or during monsoon when we see flooding in neighborhoods across the county.
Judy Lynn with the county says the ideas isn't to bombard people with messages and cause unnecessary chaos. You'll only get alerts about serious emergencies. You have to enter some basic information like your phone number and address.
You can opt to get text messages, phone calls or emails.
"This is going to allow us to literally get messages into your pocket," Lynn said. "It will come to your cell phone, it can come to email."
"We can make phone calls, so if you're thinking of your elderly mother who may not use her cell phone or may not have a cell phone there is the option for the system to call people as well," Lynn said.
The county is using the platform Everbridge for the software. Everbridge was founded after September 11th to help people communicate with people.
