Police investigating death of dog hung from tree

PHOENIX (AP) - Police in Phoenix are investigating the death of a dog that was found hung from a tree by a chain.
    
Officers were called to a business around 10 a.m. Friday in response to an animal cruelty call.
    
Upon arrival, police say they found a chihuahua hanging from a tree by a chain around the animal's neck.
    
Officers were able to remove the dog from the tree and determined that the animal was dead.
    
An autopsy will be performed on the dog to determine the exact cause of death and to determine if there are any other unusual circumstances.
    
It's unclear if the dog had an owner.
    
Police say they are searching for whoever is responsible for what they are calling a heinous crime.
