The Sonoran Research Institute or "SERI", has been helping the Tucson community since the 90s by providing free home inspections and replacing crucial household items like fire alarms.

Senior program director at SERI, Flor Sandoval, says since they began providing home inspections to identify risks to child health they've gone more than 5,000 homes in Tucson.

Now, with grant money from the Environmental Protection Agency they're expanding to Nogales.

"We do a 29 hazard assessment in the home and we install free smoke alarms so we assess for different things in the home, we assess for fire, carbon monoxide, fall hazards."

So far, SERI has inspected more than 150 homes in Nogales.

"We also can do some lead testing while we're doing the home inspection and we check the cups, the kitchen utensils that we have and check for lead."

The inspections are free and open to anyone. If you are interested in having your home inspected visit SERI's website or use the contact below.
