STAR VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) - Gila County authorities say an object in Star Valley that appeared to be a pipe bomb was found to be inactive.
Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd said Monday that an Arizona Department of Public Safety unit that deals with explosives ordinance found the item was "rendered inert" and disposed of it.
A town resident spotted the object Sunday afternoon in a wooded area behind his home. He reported it as a suspicious item that could be a pipe bomb.
DPS was called to assist and a bomb squad arrived about three hours later.
