Changes may be coming to your child's school.

The state Board of Education held a public hearing Monday night at Catalina Magnet High School about the proposed changes to the state's reading and math learning standards.

The public can comment on the 2016 Arizona DRAFT Standards online until October 3.

According to an article by the Arizona Republic some of the changes include:

  • Learning how to "transcribe ideas legibly in cursive" by the end of the third grade.
  • Creating additional standards for high-school math courses beyond Algebra I, geometry and Algebra II
  • Adding time and money standards to grades 1-4

Scott Leska, a governing board member of Amphitheater Public Schools, says his committe also will be taking a close look at making Arizona math standards age appropriate.
