"Mental Health Awareness" week kicked off on the UA campus.

A group called UA Active Minds set-up 1,100 flags on the mall to represent the number of college students who commit suicide each year.

"We want to open a dialogue where people can seek help and not feel afraid to be judged and they can be able to express themselves freely on the U of A campus," said Joshua Sanchez, President of UA Active Minds.

Sanchez says there have been recent cases of suicide on the U of A campus and that the school averages about four suicides each year.

Active Minds is a national nonprofit organization that empowers students to speak openly about mental health in order to educate others and encourage help-seeking.
