TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Senator, Martha McSally, gave the keynote address at the U.S. Naval Academy for a national discussion about sexual assault and harassment at colleges, universities and service academies across the country.
McSally spoke to superintendents from three service academies, as well as representatives from more than 100 colleges across the country.
In March, McSally revealed she was raped while serving in the airforce.
During her address, she said she shared her experience to be an inspiration to those who are also victims.
McSally called on colleges and military academies to do more to protect young students.
“America’s mothers and fathers spent 18 years or so raising their kids, they’re pouring everything in to make sure their kids have everything they need in order to succeed in life," said McSally. "And think about it, every single year, you’ve got America’s mothers and fathers dropping off America’s sons and daughters at your institutions, at your universities, at your military academies. America’s mothers and fathers are entrusting their sons and daughters to you, it’s your responsibility to make sure [sexual assault] doesn’t happen."
