Man accused of plotting attack faces trial

Posted
An Arizona man accused of plotting an attack at a Prophet Muhammad cartoon contest in Texas faces a second day of tough questioning from a prosecutor about his knowledge of the shooting.

Abdul Malik Abdul Kareem took the witness stand Tuesday at his trial on charges that he planned the attack in a Dallas suburb.

He insisted he knew nothing beforehand about the attack and testified about two friends who were killed in a police shootout outside the event.

Kareem underwent questioning about whether he was told that his two friends, Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi, were planning to attack an Arizona military base.

Kareem initially said a mutual friend vaguely mentioned such a plan, but Kareem later said he wasn't paying attention when the comment was made.
