If you're getting a new license plate, there's no need to bring the old one back. The Arizona Motor Vehicle Division recommends avoiding an unneeded office visit.
In the case that a license plate is damaged or it can no longer be read, the law requires a vehicle owner to get a new plate.
But, if your current license plate is in good condition, you have the option of transferring that plate when you buy a new vehicle.
