COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - A K9 name Geo will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s.

Carol Capas, spokesperson with the Cochise County Sheriff's Office says the special delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.

Geo’s vest is sponsored by the Tree of Hope 2015 Fundraiser hosted by Petco in Mansfield, MA.  Their mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States.

Cochise County Sheriff Dannels said, "We appreciate the recognition of our K-9 partners and the dedication of the Vested Interest Program with the donation of this vest."

The non-profit was established to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers, said Capas. The program is open to dogs actively employed in the U.S. with law enforcement or related agencies who are certified.

There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.
