TUCSON, Ariz. — Pima County One-Stop held a second-chance job fair Thursday for anyone with a criminal record.
The annual job fair allows employers to give a job opportunity to people with a criminal record by not focusing on the past, but on an individual's skills.
"One of the biggest challenges is trying to explain that criminal background," Danny Howe of Pima County One-Stop said. "They try and take on that identity, as opposed to just saying, 'Hey, I am this person with these skills and qualifications, but I also have this in my past. People want to identify with that criminal background first, but we try and push that they are humans first."
Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, who has long been a supporter of Second Chance, also attended the event Thursday.
"This is an underutilized pool of talent for employers," Rothschild said in a news release. "Many are skilled, want to move on with their lives, and are very grateful to employers who are willing to give them a second chance."
