The public is invited to the 2nd Annual Pumpkin Smash Saturday.

This event invites you to bring your Halloween pumpkin to be turned into food for soil rather than be thrown away.

Pumpkins will be smashed, catapulted and launched from slingshots, then put to good use by Las Milpitas Community Farm and UA Compost Cats.

According to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, each fall, the U.S. produces approximately 1.1 billion pounds of pumpkins, most of which are used for decoration and then thrown away.

The Pumpkin Smash will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Las Milpitas Farm located at 2405 S. Cottonwood Lane.
