HOLBROOK, Ariz. (AP) - Westbound Interstate 40 has reopened between Holbrook and the Arizona-New Mexico border after being closed Thursday morning due to icy conditions and multiple crashes and slide-offs, but eastbound I-40 remains closed in the same area of northeastern Arizona.
The Arizona Department of Transportation says the closure is roughly from mileposts 289-360 and that there is no estimated time to reopen eastbound lanes.
Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Kameron Lee says the closure follows eight slide-offs, nine non-injury crashes and one injury crash since Wednesday evening.
He says the closure is "a pro-active measure" by authorities who are trying "to avoid any more crashes knowing the icy conditions of the road."
