The only rest area on I-10 between Tucson and Phoenix is set to reopen Monday, November 6.
The Arizona Department of Transportation closed the Sacaton Rest Area in October, as part of a planned $3 million renovation project. The construction was expected to last six months.
Custom septic tanks ordered for the renovation were scheduled to take more time to arrive than anticipated, so ADOT decided to reopen the rest area through the busy holiday travel season.
Work planned for the rest area includes upgrades to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, water and sewer line replacements, upgrading the electrical and mechanical systems, and painting.
The Sacaton Rest Area is now set to close in January.
