TUCSON, Ariz. — Interstate 10 is now three lanes wide in both directions between Tucson and Casa Grande, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced Friday.

The last four miles widened between Earley Road and Picacho are now clear of construction crews. They were part of a $72 million project from ADOT.

The only remaining section of two-lane highway on I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson is between State Route 387 and Queen Creek Road near Chandler. ADOT says they're working with the Maricopa Association of Governments and the Gila River Indian Community on an environmental impact report and design concept for expansion in those sections.

Funding for initial improvements is "tentatively planned" for fiscal year 2023, ADOT said in Friday's news release. A study will determine when the project could begin.
