Gas prices at their lowest point since 2009

Posted

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Gas prices are dropping and expected to dip even more.

The DOW dropped more than 300 points on Friday, as the price of U.S. oil is under $36 a barrel.  The change puts oil prices at their lowest point since 2009.

According to GasBuddy.com, Tucson's average price per gallon 18 months ago was about $3.35. Today, the average is $1.85.  That is about a $1.50 savings. To put that into perspective consumers are spending about $20 less today every time the tank if filled.

Gas prices are typically lower towards the end of the year, but this year they're going down even more.  Experts say they expect the drop to carry on into 2016.

Because of an over supply in oil, the national average is expected to dip below two dollars per gallon for the first time in six years.

The low prices are coming as a nice gift for drivers just in time for the holidays.
