TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Merchants in Tucson are worried that fee increases and time limitations for parking could hurt business.

Reports say that Tucson's municipal government is considering raising parking-meter rates and adding metered parking limitations in specific business areas.

City officials say they want to address parking turnover as a way to boost visitors to areas including Fourth Avenue, downtown and Main Gate Square.

The concerns arise from a Park Tucson study determining there is limited parking turnover in the high-entertainment areas within the city 114 miles southeast of Phoenix.

Members of the city's merchants associations say they want to discuss specific parking issues and potential solutions before changes are made.

There are not yet any scheduled public meetings to discuss parking proposals.
