Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake paid tribute to his colleague on the Senate floor Monday afternoon.
"Until the very end, he served his country. Until the very end," Flake's remarks began.
Emotional at times, Flake honored his friend and mentor in the U.S. Senate with heartfelt words while a vase of white flowers lay on McCain's seat in the hall.
"We are fortunate to have known him best in Arizona. But he was always bigger than any one state. He always belonged to America, and to the world. And now he belongs to the ages," Flake said in the speech.
