TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) -  As many of us were out celebrating last night, some new Tucsonan's were embarking on their first New Year's Day. Tucson Medical Center welcomed the city's first baby of 2016. The healthy baby girl was born just minutes after the stroke of midnight.

"She was the first baby to be born here in Tucson so it's a very special marker that's gonna be with [us] forever," said the mother, Susan Rincon in a translation.

Just three minutes after midnight, Rincon and Juan Garcia welcomed a baby girl into the world. Diana Laura Garcia-Rincon came as the first baby born in Tucson in 2016.

She came in at nearly six pounds and 19 inches long. She joins three other siblings in their family.

Her parents weren't expecting her until the end of January, so the birth came as an extra-special New Year's surprise.

"[We] were doing all the preparations for New Year's Eve dinner and it was about 10 a.m.. when [my] water broke," said Rincon. "Everything stayed at home ready and sat on the table because [we] had to come and deliver the baby."

Rincon was in labor for about eight hours, and both she and the baby are doing just fine. But, that wasn't the only milestone met at Tucson Medical Center today. After Diana was born, five other New Year's babies came along.

"When we heard that we delivered the first six babies in Tucson on New Year's day it was no surprise," said TMC representative, Kimberly Romo. "We actually delivered six babies between 12:03 and 1:14 a.m.."
