BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (AP) - Federal land managers are considering a company's plan to expand a gold and silver mine onto federal land in northwestern Arizona.
The Bureau of Land Management plans an Aug. 29 public meeting in Bullhead City to hear comments on the proposed expansion of the Moss Mine managed by Golden Vertex Corp.
The agency says the mine currently operates on less than half a square mile of private land about 5 miles (8 kilometers) east of Bullhead City and want to expand mining operations onto less than a square mile of federal land.
The expanded operations would include an open pit mine, rock stockpiles, solution ponds, buildings and roads.
According to the BLM, Golden Vertex also is interested in conducting exploratory drilling on additional federal property around its existing mining operation.
