Family loses two dogs in house fire

Posted

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A family of four lost two dogs in a house fire on Thursday night, according to Tucson Fire Department.

Tucson Fire Capt. Andy Skaggs said the fire started in a bedroom in the home near 17th and Utah.  Multiple 911 callers said they saw heavy smoke and windows that looked like they were melting.

The bedroom door was shut, so the fire was contained to only that room.

No one was home at the time of the fire, said Skaggs.  Sadly, two dogs were home and did not survive the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Skaggs added it is important to close doors when you sleep and when you are not home.  The fire was contained to the bedroom of origin because the door was closed, he said.  If you are ever caught in a fire or escape a fire, close the door behind you and between you and the fire if you are unable to escape.
