PHOENIX (AP) - Prosecutors won't pursue allegations that former state Rep. Todd Clodfelter violated an Arizona law prohibiting former lawmakers from lobbying for one year after leaving office.
The Arizona Capitol Times reports that the state Attorney General's Office considered a referral by the Secretary of State's Office but decided that the Tucson Republican wasn't paid to lobby during the 2019 legislative session after his term in the House of Representatives expired in January.
Office spokeswoman Katie Connor said prosecutors believed Clodfelter engaged in some form of lobbying but that the law on lobbying by former legislators explicitly prohibits lobbying for compensation.
Connor said the office examined bank statements and reviewed a sworn statement in which Clodfelter said only his wife received compensation to lobby on behalf of the Arizona Cosmetology Association.
