GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) - Bond has been set at $250,000 for a former Gilbert Fire and Rescue captain accused of sexual conduct with a minor, indecent exposure and kidnapping.

Maricopa County Sheriff's officials say 47-year-old Michael William Palmatier was taken into custody Wednesday.

According to court documents, the alleged incident occurred last Sunday while Palmatier was off-duty and it involved an 8-year-old girl.

Palmatier, of Queen Creek, didn't have an attorney at his initial court appearance Thursday.

His next scheduled court dates are a May 1 status conference and a May 3 preliminary hearing.

Prior to his arrest, Palmatier resigned from the Gilbert Fire Department after nearly 20 years as a first responder.

Town officials issued a statement Wednesday saying they're aware of Palmatier's arrest and resignation and are cooperating with MCSO's investigation.
