This is the third year for the 9/11 Memorial Tower Challenge. Participants climbed the steps of the Arizona Stadium twice-equivalent to the 110 floors in the World Trade Center towers.

Active and retired military and first responders along with their families climbed 2,071 steps, and some of them did so in full gear. Members of the bomb squad wore gear weighing up to 70 pounds, and many firefighters donned full gear to symbolize what their fellow first responders went through on September 11, 2001.

This climb specifically memorializes the 414 first responders who sacrificed their lives to save others. There were two other climbs Friday in Arizona. One was in Tempe, and the other in Flagstaff.

Donations from Friday's event will go directly to 100 Club of Arizona and the Arizona Fisher House, which help take care of our servicemen and women and their families.
