PHOENIX (AP) - Gov. Doug Ducey has signed legislation that would limit his administration's authority to raise fees.

The legislation signed Friday would limit fee increases to inflation, unless the administration first submits the proposal to the Legislature's budget committee for review.

State agencies charge fees for a wide variety of purposes, from nursing licenses to driver's licenses.

GOP Sen. J.D. Mesnard says his bill would be a check on fee increases by state agencies, which can take in more money without consulting the Legislature.

The measure originally would have required the Joint Legislative Budget Committee to approve fee increases. The final version requires only that they be submitted for review.
