Police arrested the driver of a van that struck and killed a bicyclist Tuesday.

According to the Sierra Vista Police Department, 31-year-old Jared McDonald, a Tucson resident, is facing charges that include second-degree murder, negligent homicide, manslaughter, and driving under the influence.

SVPD says the incident happened on the shoulder of Buffalo Soldier Trail south of Garden Avenue at 1:36 p.m.

The bicyclist, 71-year-old David Alva, was struck when McDonald's vehicle left the roadway. Alva was pronounced dead at the scene.
