and last updated

The Frye Fire burning 7 miles southwest of Safford is now 39 percent contained.

According to the Coronado National Forest, the fire has burned an estimated 35,562 acres.

Slightly cooler temperatures have helped air resources to suppress the flames.

Firefighters will continue to patrol and monitor the west side of the fire Sunday. Higher humidity is enabling the crews to work efficiently in the more important locations.

The lightning-caused fire began on June 7.
