TUCSON, Ariz. — The city of Tucson announced that electric scooter's will be available for rent earlier September.

During a six-month pilot program, Bird and Razor will launch up to 750 e-scooters each, totaling 1,500 scooters.

The city of Tucson Transportation Department will hold a pre-launch event for the community to test the scooters free of charge in a safe area free of traffic.

The event will be held on September 4 at 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Seventh Street on the southeast corner.

The pilot program is to increase safety, decrease sidewalk riding, and test the success of e-scooters as a transportation option in Tucson.

The city will conduct an evaluation during the program to determine how and if the e-scooters will be an added mode of transportation to the community.
