For the 34th year straight, St. Demetrios Greek Church and the Salvation Army are working together to whip up an amazing free meal for the Tucson community.

Volunteers expect to make nearly 2,000 Thanksgiving meals for the event that goes from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday.
It's free to anyone who wants to come. The Salvation Army says it's a perfect place for college students who may be alone on Thanksgiving, the homeless, and anyone who wants to bring their family for a hot meal.
This event is completely funded by donations from the community. Volunteers collected food for weeks and started preparations nearly a week ago.
School children made decorations for the tables to make it a festive setting.

Volunteers will also deliver about 600 hot meals today to the elderly, disabled and those who can't leave their homes to make sure as many as possible can have a happy Thanksgiving.

The St. Demetrios Church is at 1145 E. Fort Lowell.
Another free meal is offered by Veterans on Patrol. They're serving an early dinner in the north east corner of Santa Rita park from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Both events are free and open to the public.
