Tucson Bishop Gerald Kicanas is resigning.
Kicanas is expected to submit his resignation letter in August. The Pope has to approve his resignation which could take months.
It is mandatory that bishops retire at the age of 75.
Kicanas is 74-years-old and will be honored at an event this evening.
