FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a man was shot and killed in a standoff with law enforcement east of Flagstaff.
Coconino County Sheriff's officials say the shooting happened just after midnight Saturday in the Doney Park area.
According to deputies, the mother of 31-year-old Mark Nelson called 911 late Friday and said her son was armed and expressing suicidal thoughts.
Deputies along with Flagstaff police and Arizona Department of Public Safety officers established a perimeter around the family's home.
Responding officers tried to convince Nelson to surrender.
Nelson then allegedly drove his truck from the back of the house to the front and exited holding a rifle.
Deputies say Nelson pointed the rifle at himself and then at officers.
Deputies then fired their weapons, hitting Nelson.
He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
