TUCSON, Ariz. — A bill making its way through the Arizona Legislature could hike the state's gas tax to pay for road repairs.

The bill calls to double Arizona's current gas tax of 18 cents over three years. That means it would be 36 cents per gallon by 2023. For small cars, that adds up to about two dollars extra per fill-up.

The bill would also increase taxes for registering electric and hybrid cars.

The House Transportation Committee passed the bill earlier this week.
