PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Department of Transportation is extending the public comment period for a draft environmental impact statement for a proposed corridor routing Interstate 11 through central and southern Arizona.
The department's announcement Friday of the extension of the comment period to July 8 from May 31 said it is intended to provide sufficient time for community review of newly released additional information that is part of the draft environmental statement.
The portion that is the subject of the current environmental review in Arizona would extend from Nogales to a point west of Wickenburg.
Little of Interstate 11 has been built so far and other parts await funding, but the highway when completed would stretch from Nogales, Arizona, to Reno, Nevada.
