PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Supreme Court has revised its rule restricting photography and recording video at appellate courts.

Chief Justice Robert Brutinel's order Wednesday changes an Oct. 16 rule that was criticized for limiting the rights of news organizations.

The rule still generally prohibits photography and videography inside appellate courts without court permission.

However, restrictions for outside areas are narrower, only prohibiting "any activity" that threatens people, disrupts court operations or compromises security. Also, the listed outside areas no longer include sidewalks.

In another change, a person violating the rule still can be told to stop but there's no longer a mention of security personnel ordering that photos or video be deleted.

The court said Friday it would revise the rule because it was interpreted "by the public more broadly than intended."
