The Pima County Sheriff's Department held an active shooter training with leaders from TSA and transportation departments across the country.

SWAT teams and the Northwest Fire Department partnered with Sheriff's Deputies to simulate a shooter attacking a public transit meeting.

The Sheriff's Department taught the Run, Hide, Fight strategy to the transit leaders. They said having a plan and being aware of an exit strategy is the best way to stay alive in an active shooter situation.

Here's what you should do:
1. Run: If you can run, evacuate as quickly as possible. Even if others don't agree to leave, if you can exit safely, do so.
2. Hide: Barricade or lock all doors and windows if you're in a small room. Put heavy furniture in front of the doorway. Hide out of sight of the windows, and make sure your cell phone is on silent.
3. Fight: if you're in a small space like a bus or train, fighting may be your best option. PCSD said make sure you commit to your actions and be phisically aggressive. Improvise weapons out of anything you have available. Your best best is to try and hit the shooter in his or her head to incapacitate them.

PCSD said the lessons they taught these department heads today will be taken back to transportation employees across the country.
