Grand jury indicts teen on lesser charges

Posted
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The first person in Pima County history to be charged with terrorism is now facing lesser charges.

A grand jury has indicted 18-year-old Arturo Francisco Gil on one count of hoax and one count of interfering with an educational institution.

On Dec. 7, Gil appeared in court on a terrorism charge after allegedly making online threats to his school and plead not guilty.

On November 15, a Facebook user going by the name "Jihadi Jim" threatened a mass shooting and bombing at the STAR center the next day.

This prompted school officials to cancel class while police did a security sweep of the school.

Police did not find anything, but served a search warrant later that day at a home near the school and that led to the arrest of Gil.

Gil's updated charges come with a five year prison sentence if convicted.  He is expected back in court next month.
