TUCSON, Ariz. — The Tucson Diocese says all gatherings in the city associated with the Catholic Church will be canceled for at least three weeks.

The news came via a news release from the Diocese Monday afternoon. Starting Monday, Bishop Edward Weisenburger's directive cancels or suspends all public masses, confirmations, religious education programs, auinceañeras, communion services, missions and all other gatherings of 10 or more people.

The Bishop's order also says any funeral or wedding must be limited to 10 people or fewer, and no one at any gathering will receive communion, except the bride and groom.

The order will remain in place until at least April 6, the Bishop said.

In the news release, the Bishop says his decision comes via the recently issued directives from the CDC and Arizona Department of Health Services.

"I believe these directives, while a hardship and deeply regrettable for us all, are sensible, substantially consistent with directives for the other Catholic diocese in Arizona, and in line with the spirit of public health directives," Bishop Weisenburger said.
