Looking to beat the heat this summer? We have a great way to chill out, and actually learn something, all while being entertained! Brian Corsetti has five of the strangest museums across America.
1. Spam Museum in Austin, MN
After opening its doors in April of 1991, the museum has been an instant success. It’s free for everyone and loaded with a theater, historical displays, family activities, and interactive games.
2. Neon Museum in Las Vegas, NV
Now this is the one on the list that won't keep you cool, because it's outdoors. The museum's mission is to preserve the history of Las Vegas signs for educational, historic, arts and cultural enrichment. Not only can you learn about the history of neon signs in Las Vegas, you can do hot yoga in the boneyard. It’s a nearly two acre outdoor campus which features more than 200 signs, seven of which are restored. You can also book a wedding or event in the former La Concha Motel lobby which houses additional reused signs.
3. National Mustard Museum in Middleton, WI
Barry Levenson came up with this idea in 1986. Now it has flourished into 5,500 mustards from 80 different countries. The nice thing about this is that they sell 450 different kinds of mustard, and you can taste every one of them, but if you're looking to also see ketchup in this museum, think again!
4. International Spy Museum in Washington, DC
It’s the only museum open to the public in the United States that is dedicated to espionage. The obvious place to have this is Washington, DC, there are more spies here than anywhere else in the country. You can run missions, climb through air ducts, and help the good guys unscramble a decrypted message. In order to see this stuff you would need to know someone who works for a spy agency -- well here you don't need that.
5. The Museum Of Bad Art in Somerville, MA
They are the only museum that collects exhibits celebrating bad art, but in a way, bad art isn't really bad art. Bad art is first of all art. They get their collection from yard sales, flea markets, and people donate them from around the world.
Strange things are calling this summer, and they’re at museums across America!
