Scattered showers and storms are possible late in the day and evening hours today and Friday from Tucson south and east. These storms will likely start across parts of Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, and Santa Cruz counties, then move west and northwest. Strong wind gusts, blowing dust, and heavy rain is possible with these storms.
Beyond Friday, dry air begins to move in, diminishing rain chances over the weekend and into early next week. This will bring on extreme heat, and an Excessive Heat Watch.
The Excessive Heat Watch is in effect for central and south central Arizona from Monday morning through Tuesday evening. This includes the greater Phoenix area. Potential highs as much as 114 to 118 degrees.
Tucson will see record or near-record heat Monday and Tuesday, with highs reaching 108 to 109. Parts of Pima county could get added to the Excessive Heat Watch.
