Sun Link street cars is celebrating five years since it started roaming the streets of downtown Tucson.

Sun Link said it's been part of helping the economic development of downtown Tucson. Since it's launch, there has been over one billion dollars of private and public investment along the street car route.

This built 90 new restaurants, bars, cafes and residential areas just in the last three years.

This year, Pat Richter with Sun Link said they were able to provide 900,000 rides to people in the city of Tucson.

He said they want the streetcar to be better connected with other forms of public transportation.

"One of the thing we're going to be doing is trying to make it so it's easier to connect from the bus to the bike share to and maybe the bike share to the streetcar and the electric scooter," Richter said.

This plan is still in the early stages of development, he said, but the hope is to have it get people to travel around Tucson further and faster.
